Anyone who has ever loved or been loved should read this book from cover to close! Dr. Plateroti's insights on human relationships and how we treat one another, albeit friend, family, stranger or romantic partner is remarkably insightful and profound. I wish I could go back in time and have had a course like this in my college days!; it would have given me keener insight on what makes a person thrive and flourish, without having to have gone through decades of growing up and navigating the daily hills and valleys of what makes us all human: LOVE and RESPECT for our fellow persons.
Most everyone whose parents/grandparents immigrated to America in the early 1900s will find similarities to some of the neighborhood or ethnic descriptions detailed throughout the book. I especially like the numerous deviations from the central story which provide additional family history or curious unspoken family secrets. All of which provided for an interesting read. I am looking forward to the next two books.
We were intrigued by the cover so, we decided to order this book. We received our copy of Speak No Evil and once we cracked the cover, we were delighted with how it began with the words from “Nature Boy.”
This book is thought provoking, well written and educational on every level. It applies to any age, gender, or nationality.
N&N
In this day and age of aging baby boomers it is a must read to appreciate and never forget the past. It is also important to understand the sacrifices and unconditional love families provided during really hard times. One very interesting aspect is that even children from the same family can be so different. Can't wait for the second and third book. Please hurry!
I loved this book! Thoughtfully written and thought provoking. ‘Speak No Evil’ touches on the most important part of being human; our relationships with others. The descriptions of the authors’ childhood and upbringing evoke feelings of a simpler, possibly kinder time. Highly recommended!
I loved this book. There were several reasons that made it enjoyable. First it is easy to read and very interesting. Secondly, it is relatable, most readers will find some of the author’s personal experiences and stories similar to their own. In my case, my family’s background, emigrating from Calabria, mirrors that of the author. What I liked best is it appears the author did not intend for this to be self-help or how to book. I believe the intent is for it to be a self-guidance book where the same message is delivered to all, but the interpretation will vary by reader – which I like.
